November 25, 2011

Another Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has come and gone. This year I was lucky to debut a brand new snowflake stilting costume for this 85th Annual Parade and walk with Olympic Ice Skater Johnny Weir as he rode a giant rocking horse.

Peter Callahan, popular caterer to the celebrities, debut book "Bite by Bite" is now available in stores and online. I was lucky enough to be featured on page 245 wearing some custom-Callahan designed stilt pants that double as a way to serve cotton candy.

I got to be part of another great Eventage promotion on Tuesday for Oreo. As part of Venus Williams Double Stuf Racing Team, I literally had to lick the icing out of an Oreo as fast as possible. That's me, second from the right. Unfortunately Shaq's team beat us, but it was still a yummy time!

September 10th was a busy day that started with a volunteer project through Eventage allowing the public of NYC to show unity during this 10th anniversary of 9/11. Approximately 5,000 people joined hands along the waterfront of lower Manhattan for a moment of silence to honor the memory of the many lives lost. It was a powerful and touching event I was privileged to be a part of. For more information click on the following link.

Later that afternoon, I returned to the USOpen at the USTA Stadium in Flushing, Queens for my fourth year as a strolling, extremely tall tennis player.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade went off without a hitch this year and thankfully the rain held off until we finished walking. It was a pleasure to herald in Santa and his sleigh and funny enough "Santa" sounds a lot like "Tanya" when a crowd is shouting it. How nice to have some 4 million people excited to see me. In the pic below I'm the tall tin-soldier looking stilt walker on the left.

October was a super busy month with some really cool events:

October 2nd I stilted for the Live United post-walk celebration benefitting United Way in Brooklyn, NY.

October 3rd I stilted for an around the world themed corporate party in Massachusetts. Check out the stilting gallery for the "Cultural Costumes" developed especially for this event.

On Friday October 22 into Saturday October 23 I had the unique opportunity to participate in Lighthouse Foundation's Double Up for Vision 24 Hour Tandem Bike Relay to support the visually impaired. Through my favorite event company Eventage, I had the pleasure of being a bike escort for two legs of the relay. From 2pm-6pm my team covered Flushing, Queens to Park Slope, Brooklyn. And from 2am-6am my second team rode from the South tip of Manhattan up to Yankees Stadium in the Bronx and back to the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

I kicked off Halloween this year On Friday October 29 with another Eventage opportunity that included dressing up as a Bumble Bee and handing out Hershey gift bags on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange...a very unique experience...check out the pics!

On October 31 it was back to South Orange, New Jersey for another year of stilting as Wanda the Good Witch for South Orange's Halloween festivities.

November began with a fun Big Apple Circus To Go promotion on November 6 at Stew Leonards's, a grocery store in Yonkers. Fellow Big Apple Circus performer Josh Matthews and I unleashed our clown characters, Ding and Pidgeon, on the unsuspecting shoppers and employees for what turned out to be a super fun and tasty time!

Hot on the heels of Stew Leonards's came another Eventage event on November 7, the ING New York City Marathon, which I again had the opportunity of participating in as Medical Station Manager at Mile 3A in Bayridge, Brooklyn. My medical team was fantastic and the weather couldn't have been better.

Upcoming events include:

November 21 8am-11am Facepainting at Toys R Us Times Square

And I'm excited to announce I will again be part of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Celebrations. On Wednesday November 24th, I'll be appearing as a stilt-walking Heralder at a VIP event at the Museum of Natural History here in NYC and on Thanksgiving Day I'll be on stilts again as a Heralder in the parade. Anyone who checks out the parade should look for me towards the end somewhere near Santa Claus. Happy Tofurkey Day to all!

September 1, 2010

One of my favorite events of the year is upon us again--the US Open! We had a great kick-off playing tennis on stilts this past Saturday during Arthur Ashe's Kids Days at the Billie Jean King USTA stadium in Flushing, Queens. On Labor Day, September 6, you'll find me at Habana Outpost in Brooklyn, NY stilting in the giant tape measure costume.

I'm also excited to announce the Big Apple Circus's Family Fun Workshops on Governor's Island have been extended through October 10th. Every Saturday and Sunday from 12pm-3pm we'll be there by the trapeze rig giving free lessons in juggling, plate spinning, diablo, and stilting. Come by; the ferry ride is free, the lesson are free, what a deal!

July 31, 2010

October 25, 2009

Hey, everyone. I just want to share with you some fun events I'll be participating in this coming Halloween weekend.

  • Saturday, October 31st I'll be appearing as a witch for Eventage's Halloween Family Parade in South Orange, NJ. 3pm-5pm
  • Later that night I'll be stiltwalking/juggling from 9pm-12am at an awesome party in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Marie-Antoinette theme, so the costume is bound to be cool. Pictures will follow as soon as I have them.
  • Sunday, November 1st I'll be returning to my post (courtesy of Eventage, my all-time favorite event company to work for) managing Medical Station 3A for the NYC Marathon. I'm stationed at the 3 mile mark in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, so if you're an early bird and want a good view of the runners, it's the place to be around 8am.
Enjoy the remaining days of October and have a fun and safe Halloween!

March 30, 2009

Hi everyone,
I will be stiltwalking this Sunday, April 5th, 2009 from 11am-2pm for Macy's Spring Petacular. The event will be occuring around the Macy's flagship store at Herald's Square in NYC. (Broadway between West 34th Street and West 36th Streets). I should be dressed as a very tall parrot or perhaps a toucan. It sounds like a super fun event to celebrate pets of all sizes and kick-off the Macy's annual flower show. If you get a chance to stop by make sure to say hello.

September 8, 2008

I had a fantastic time stilting for the 2008 US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Queens, New York this past weekend. Unfortunately Hurricane Hanna showed up right in time for our set Saturday so that was cancelled but Sunday we had spectacular weather. Check out the media page for some live video footage from the event and the Circus page in the Gallery for a photo.

Next weekend on Sunday, September 14th I'll be appearing as a stiltwalker, juggler, etc at Riverside Park in Manhattan for the Hudson Summer Days Festival from around noon until 5pm.

September 3, 2008
